Reepsholt tunic

Reepsholt tunic, dated to 1st-4th century CE (also known as Wittmund tunic), is an interesting example of antiquity fashion. It is close in style to some so-called Coptic tunics typical for Late Roman period. It has a very wide body, relatively short sleeves, and a horizontal, slightly rounded neckline. It is difficult to say what proportions the owner had, but Karl Schlabow admits that it should have reached the knees.

Connections with the Roman world are also hinted at by the decor of the cord woven on the tablets, as it appears sometimes in Coptic tunics. The cord is sewn around the neck and continues on the shoulders, fastened with two loops on each shoulder. 2/2 twill weave with 9-10 threads per cm has a striped pattern made with changing of color of warp threads. Weaving shows very high skills and creativity as sleeves are woven together with the body.

We propose our reproduction of the tunic made of different wool fabrics we have in stock.
